24 Jan 2026I hired Gold Crest Surveyors for a Level 3 Building Survey (costing nearly £800) on a house I intended to buy, based on a previous okay experience years ago. This time was a complete disaster, and I strongly advise others to avoid this company. My main issue is with misleading sales practices. Before paying, I spoke extensively with Juan Mouton. I asked repeatedly if the survey included estimated repair costs for any issues found. He assured me multiple times, "yes of course it comes included." The report arrived with no cost estimates whatsoever, making it far less useful for my decision-making. This was a direct breach of what was promised. Furthermore, their customer service is non-existent once they have your money. When I called to query the missing estimates, I was fobbed off and promised a callback that never came. For weeks, my calls and emails have been ignored. The only response I got was from someone who clearly hadn't read my email, sending me a quote for a survey I'd already paid for! When I corrected him, he casually said he'd "transfer" me. It’s a joke. Even the survey itself is questionable and lazy. The report states the chimney was checked and was fine. The problem? The house doesn't have a chimney at all—no breast, no stack, nothing. This glaring error suggests they use copy-paste templates without proper checks. Most alarmingly, I have since discovered this company now appears to be operating under a new name: "Novello Chartered Surveyors." Given my experience—taking payment for promised services they didn't deliver, then completely ghosting me—this name change feels like a tactic to escape a damaged reputation and negative reviews like this one. It is a huge red flag. I believe they change names to scam new customers once complaints pile up. In short: They give promises to get your payment, then abandon you. The work is sloppy. Now, they seem to be hiding under a new name. I deeply regret using them and feel I wasted £800. Please learn from my mistake. Extreme caution is advised if you are considering "Novello Chartered Surveyors" — research thoroughly, as it appears to be the same problematic operation.
